The Netshare Fiasco

For all you pink Apple iPhone lovers, I have some good news and I have some bad news. Plus I can’t seem to decide which is actually which, because it keeps changing every few minutes. I am talking about Nullriver’s Netshare application.

Nullriver’s Netshare is an application, which can be downloaded for a minimal price of $9.99. And believe me it isn’t steep at all considering all the features it provides. Nullriver’s Netshare is a wonderful application, which allows the customers to share their iPhone EDGE or 3G connection over Wi-Fi with other devices. Basically Netshare allows the users to access the Internet through wireless tethering and connect to your laptop. It essentially transforms your iPhone into a router of sorts, just like the Asus WL-600g. Nullriver’s Netshare works on an Internet protocol termed as SOCKS, short for sockets. Working on the Layer 5 of the OSI model (the Session Layer), client server applications are allowed to use the services of the firewall of a network transparently. And this is an application approved by Apple. Sounds great doesn’t it?

But here’s the bad news. This application was yanked 20 minutes after it became available on the market. It was available on the App Store and soon after it was discontinued. Apparently there is a problem with AT&T and their terms of AT&T user agreement, which was why it was yanked. And here’s the weird part. It became available again and discontinued. So all you pink iPhone owners keep your eyes open. Try to get it as soon as you can.
